Trekking, rock climbing and mountaineering are being strongly prompted. Tourists are also being attracted exciting river rafting, those skiing near Manali and Narkanda does not compare with western resorts. The only railways, the picturesque narrow gauge lines from Kalka in Punjab to the state capital of Shimla, and from Pathankot to Jogindernagar, are both delightful, if slow.
