Woodville
Palace has an impressive history dating
right back to 1866 when Sir William
Mansfield, Commander-in-Chief of the
Imperial Army became the first resident
of this charming and picturesque estate.
It was later acquired by His Highness
Maharaja Bhagvat Sinh of Gondal State in
Western Indian as a gift for his
daughter, Rani Leila Ba of Jubbal State.
Her husband, Raja Rana Sir Bhagat Chand
tore down the old structure and
constructed a new building in 1938.
Hundreds of expert artisans were
commissioned to ensure the highest
quality of craftsmanship. Rajkumar Uday
Singh, grandson of the Raja Sahib opened
a part of the mansion as a small hotel
in April, 1977. Today, the palace is one
of the classiest places to stay in
Shimla.
A Heritage Hotel Woodville Palace Resort
is about half a mile from the main
shopping centre in Shimla, the Mall, and
yet away from the hustle and bustle of
the town. Maintained by the royal family
in excellent condition, it offers
gracious living of a bygone era, gone
but not forgotten. There are multilevel
gardens and lawns with benches, a small
swing and rose bushes. A private road
leads to the Mall. Located at 7000 feet
near the heart of Shimla, the ‘Queen of
The Hills ', Woodville Palace is the
Kohinoor on this queen’s crown. Stepping
into the impeccable Woodville Palace of
the Royal family of Jubbal is like
stepping into a time machine where one
is transported to the British Raj of the
1930’s. The palace is adorned with multi
level rose gardens and lawns. It is also
considered a gateway to lesser-known and
equally spectacular hill stations of
Kufri and Chail
Accommodation:Hotel Woodville Palace houses 28 rooms,
inclusive of the royal cottage and royal
suite, which have been tastefully
decorated into theme rooms. In the
tradition of most heritage hotels, no
two rooms are alike in décor and yet
they offer that same high quality
service and comfort to the guests
The most amazing aspect of Woodville is
that no two rooms would necessarily be
similar. The rooms are a perfect blend
of vintage ambience and modern
amenities. Each room seems to tell tales
and whisper unheard secrets of the
bygone eras with their décor. The rooms
and corridors are lined with Persian
carpets and lithographs which are over a
century old. The finest rosewood,
teakwood and ebony furniture welcome
guests with the same hospitality as the
hotel staff.

Imperial banquet hall and the latest
Octagonal Dining Hall are the formal
dining areas in the Woodville Palace and
used for high teas and dinners hosted
for state and international dignitaries.
They are multi cuisine, serving up
Himachali, North Indian as well as
Continental treats to the food
connoisseur. Tastefully and elegantly
decorated, the Imperial Banquet Hall and
the Octagonal Dining Hall are great
options to enjoy a lovely meal with
family and friends.
There is also a Garden Café for those
most closely inclined to experience
nature while they dine. Located
aesthetically among pine trees, its
scenic beauty is commendable. It also
has open spaces for children to frisk
about. The resturant servers a coffee
shop menu with global tit bits.
